NewAlliance Bank Education Fund

NewAlliance Bank recognizes that education is essential for the children who live in our communities as well as for the future of our communities. Therefore, the Bank supports The Education Fund, a program directed and administered by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. The Education Fund provides financial assistance to New Haven children in the form of scholarships to students from kindergarten through sixth grade currently enrolled, or planning to enroll, in tuition-based schools in New Haven.

Applicants, as well as anyone interested in learning more about The NewAlliance Education Fund, should contact The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven which has administrative management responsibility for the Fund.

  • Eligibility
Eligible applicants are residents of New Haven in grades K through six who are currently enrolled, or plan to enroll, in local tuition-based private schools and who otherwise would not consider private or parochial education due to the financial costs involved. Children of employees of, or contractors to, The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven are not eligible to apply.
  • Awards
On behalf of NewAlliance Bank, the Education Subcommittee of The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven makes five awards for each academic year. The amount awarded is based upon available resources. Scholarship recipients must reapply each year for consideration for subsequent awards.
  • Application
Applicants must request, receive and complete a scholarship application and mail it to The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by The Foundation and its designees.
  • Selection of Recipients
The Foundation applies a thorough review process to all applicants, which includes an interview with each applicant. Awards are generally made on the basis of both financial need and academic achievement. All recipients are selected and the award amounts determined by The Foundation.
  • Payment of Scholarships
On behalf of NewAlliance Bank, The Foundation will process scholarship awards and mail them to each recipient's school address. Checks are made payable jointly to the student and the school and must be endorsed by both.
  • Obligations
Recipients have no obligations to NewAlliance Bank. They are, however, required to provide The Foundation with report cards twice a year and to notify The Foundation of any changes in address, school enrollment or other relevant information.
